If a person has difficulty following the plot of a show or book, battles to find words, has poor short-term memory, general forgetfulness, loses the thread of conversations, is easily distracted, and battles to form new memories or learn new things, they could be in the early stages of dementia. Other risk factors are elevated cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure, ischemic heart disease, and depression.Īccording to a report commissioned by Lancet on dementia prevention and care, one in three cases of dementia could be prevented by addressing the risk factors you can control, says Beech. Were thrilled that so many people have responded positively to this work. But in most cases, they dont do it well at all, for some reason. People often try to manage this situation to the best of their ability. This year’s theme, ‘Never too early, never too late’, is centred around risk factors and risk reduction. A decisive conversation is a discussion between two or more people where (1) the meaning is important, (2) the opinions differ, and (3) the emotions are strongly expressed.
